Are expensive motherboards worth it?
We all love motherboards and given the choice, if money was no object we'd probably all like to own a premium one. However, there can be some very good reasons for spending more, such as getting cutting edge features for future proofing, better cooling and performance, especially as there's usually between two and five years between CPU socket changes.
In this guide we're looking at the benefits of buying a more premium motherboard, from a more satisfying buying and building experience, high-end features, better performance, but also where a more value-conscious board is more than enough.
We're comparing two very different motherboards on AMD's X670E chipset, but there are greater differences if you go even cheaper down the field. It's an interesting mash up for sure!

How is switching to ddr5 on a Z790 mobo a questionable decision?? lol like bruh wtf are u talkin about. Who’s buying a brand new z790 board and using ddr4? Ur completely outta ur mind here my guy. We’re talking about ddr6 coming out in 2025 and u want brand new high end mobo’s costing $300+ to come with ddr4???? U need to stop talking and/or giving ur opinion on computers immediately.

literally all gpus (on any any good product) are bought by the 'tech reviewers' in the name of testing and benchmarking, when we all know the total number of gpus manufactured would be limited. i want this nvidia rtx 4070 Super founders edition, but its not available... its never available... and the moment i look it up on youtube, almost every reviewer/gamer has it for free?... HOW? hundreds (or maybe thousands) of them can get free samples in the name of reviews, but what about customers? do you (youtubers*) all consume each and every card made by them? so how will they even reach the end customer who actually need these? this entire review ecosystem is deeply flawed, where the sheer number of reviewers create a situation where many units are diverted from the consumer market. Thus, the demand is kept high and end consumers are forced to wait longer to acquire desired products. SHAME.

The new AMD 5 pins on the mobo are so fine and small I couldn't find a fix and couldn't just bend them back as I normally would have easily.

Thanks for the video. One tip, it seemed your footage was a bit juddery, if the footage you filmed was natively 30FPS or 60FPS (I wasn't sure?) try exporting as 30 or 60 FPS, any even multiple or divisor of the source footage should help. A lot of monitors are 60 or 120, so it should look good on those as well. Video stats are showing this as 25. (If you prefer exporting at 25FPS then you can try tweaking your camera settings to be 25 or 50 I suppose. If it's not an even multiple, the export is forced to skip an uneven number of source frames each output frame, so there is slight judder from that.) Best of luck with the channel!

I wish they could make a motherboard that would use the 8 pcie gen5 lanes available besides the one for the graphics card and split it up to many more gen 3/4 speed. Imagine being able to put 2-4 full pcie 16x slots that work on gen 3/4 instead of one gen5. Or even better 4 x m.2 gen3 slots instead of one M.2 gen5. Does it exist? Full of ports that can be operated at lower gen speed which is plenty for most people

Most of the motherboard don't even use 10 gbe for 1 Gb/s transfert speed over the network. What's the point of wanting an internal ssd that can write as fast as ram anyways if you're stuck sharing them at 0.25 Gb/'s max.

You seem to have fallen for the marketing B.S. From what you're comparing. You're just talking about the features not what they are useful for. Tell me what you can't do on Sata ssd or nvme gen3 that you can do on gen5? Do you even see the difference? You just compare numbers, oh big number is better... I mean cmon man that's all marketing bs. If you need the speed from nvme en 5 then just get a 40mm on it and call it a day. Don't need to pay a motherboard 500$ for that. Or just get a gen3 ssd or slower gen4 that doesn't consume 15w in the first place? You don't need to pay 500-600$ motherboard for it to last. What is that mentality coming from anyways? Another marketing bs imo. 10-15 years ago mobo were like 50-150$. At what point you need the rgd and visual design looks of an internal pc component? We're not Steve Jobs who cares most of you run windows telemetry edition anyways so what's the point of spending thousands on hardware that run crappy copilot+ os anyways?🤔

X670E Taichi is the heaviest motherboard I've ever held. It's so big and thick and just feels so well built and premium. Got it used but in perfect working condition for 285$. Intel WLAN instead of Mediatek which most other AM5 boards use is so much more reliable and gets better signal. Clear CMOS button is great for playing with memory when you need it, having power/reset on the board is also super handy for initial testing. M.2 ports don't share bandwidth with anything so you can run all 4 NVME at rated speed. On-board audio is the best on any motherboard. 2x USB4 which are also capable of display out. God I love this board. B650E lite offers most of the features and can be found new around or under 250$, so that's a super solid option as well.

I'm kinda hoping maybe with CAMM2 we can see some more premium boards in the ITX and Micro ATX category. Both Intel and AMD are to be seeing significant improvements in efficiency on CPUs with 15th Gen Arrow Lake, and Ryzen 9000. One already showing improvements in reviews. The high power draw of recent CPU's and GPUs over the last few Generations has kinda made compact and SFF builds complicated.

AMD had LGA chips for their Business chips for a long time. Consumer chips had been PGA ( pins on the cpu ) , then with AM5 moved to the Land Grid Array ( LGA ) like intel has been doing for all of their chips for a very long time.
